Abstract
The PED (Alpha) project represents the new frontier in emergency exit devices, redefining the concept of safety through a design that integrates aesthetics, ergonomics and functionality. The range of emergency pull-handles features a bold, minimalist design that enhances usability whilst fully complying with the latest European safety standards.
The research and design process was guided by the most rigorous principles of Human-Centred Design (HCD), an approach that shifts the focus from the object itself to the actual capabilities and needs of the individual in stressful situations. In this context, its linear form is not merely an aesthetic choice, but an ergonomic solution designed to remove any barrier between the user and the exit.
Thanks to a precise mapping of instinctive gestures and movements, the shapes of the PED pull-bar series have been optimised to drastically reduce the effort required to activate them. This reduction in physical strain translates into an immediate and universal benefit: it ensures a faster, smoother and more intuitive exit for every category of user — regardless of age or motor skills — and in any emergency scenario.
The result is a range of devices that require no learning, but respond naturally to touch, making safety an inclusive and barrier-free experience.
